Serbia is a country with a population of 7.5 million, with sports as their major passion. The country offers numerous sporting facilities for majority of sports and activities. While football clearly reigns Serbia's sports scene, the nation also offers plenty of great alternatives like basketball, tennis, badminton, volleyball, shooting and water sports.
Belgrade, the capital of Serbia is also home to two football teams, Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) and Partizan, which have achieved remarkable success and have become famous all over the world. Belgrade Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) is currently participating in the UEFA Champions League.
With more than 1,000 facilities offering sports including swimming, water polo, football, basketball, tennis, etc., Serbia is ready to meet any sports challenge.
Belgrade Arena, meeting the latest standards and technology became Belgrade's trademark and one of the new symbols of the Serbian capital, as well as the place of interest for the visitors to the capital. Together with Prague Arena, it ranks as one of the best of its kind in Europe.
The country has also given rise to several world class tennis players such as Novak Djokovic, the current Wimbledon, Cincinnati and US Open Champion and Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic who are former World Champions.
It is also important to note that amongst the European countries, Serbia is one of the most peaceful and safe countries for visitors and tourists. It is ranked very highly by UN Peace Index.
